It’s the beginning of a new story. An impact into the earth, the history of a town, and memories for the future. A custom home holds so much value. It’s combining elements and craftsmanship that carry a sense of timelessness, while knowing when to mix in moments of freshness and style that speaks to the current time.

On the last blog we chatted through the inspiration behind the home and feel, so we wanted to take you through some of the key moments in this home & the intentionality behind those design selections.

THE FRONT PORCH STONE FIREPLACE |

With creating a sense of history, adding in architectural elements for the exterior was a definite. We landed on adding a stone fireplace off of the front porch, (Inside - A slate front fireplace in the open dining room) to give a nod to an old world feel. It brought in warmth and texture to the classic white feel.

THE FLOATING STAIRWELL |

The stairway was a huge dilemma during the design process. We wanted to bring as much natural light into the home, while also creating a timeless style feel. We landed on a floating staircase with two story windows. The really neat thing about this selection, was that it created a nook underneath the stairs for a small sitting area. It adds in such an element of coziness and surprise as you turn the corner.

THE KITCHEN HOOD + BACKPLASH |

With the kitchen design, we knew we wanted to go with more of a home in the English countryside feel, rather modern or even rustic routes. We chose to do vertical uneven tongue and groove as the backsplash for warmth and texture, along with painting it the same as the cabinetry for a seamless feel. For the hood, we went with one that was large on scale, but easy on the eye in all white and simple lines and curves. The added shelf on the front creates a piece of charm.

LIVING ROOM BUILT IN BENCH SEATING |

With the living room window being surrounded with lake views, we wanted to take the opportunity to create intentional seating spots to enjoy them. Both sides flanking the fireplace have these quaint nooks with a custom striped cushion and a touch of modern underneath with seamless pull out drawers for extra storage. The benches added so much liveliness to the space, and allow views and light to pour in.

OUTDOOR LIVING SCREENED IN PATIO |

The original house plans involved a basement, but we really wanted to take it in the direction of the California style walk out outdoor living. A wall of sliding glass doors line the kitchen & walk out to a peaceful screened in back patio (Because Georgia living & bugs / especially by a lake) Filled with two intentional outdoor living spaces of dining and lounging, it allows lake living at it’s finest.
